Born Barbara Joan Harrington June 20, 1938, the first daughter of Mary and Henry Harrington in the Toronto Grace Hospital. Joan attended school at Holy Name and graduated Notre Dame Catholic High School. Joan spent three years as a legal secretary in England, before accepting a secretarial position in Toronto with Roger Cooney. Joan met Ross McDonald on a blind date and they were married a year later in Rosedale Ontario. Relocated to Bobcaygeon before settling in Fenelon Falls where she enjoyed a rewarding career at the Livery Stable. Since retiring, Joan has excelled as a volunteer with Community Care and the Red Cross. Her charitable nature made her an award winning canvasser for Heart and Stroke as well as the Cancer association. With an enviable flare for fashion and sharp decorating sense Joan surrounded herself and others with the warm comfort of home. She enjoyed traveling, thrived on hosting gourmet family gatherings with friends, and fostering displaced animals. She loved walking her beloved dog Dugal with her cherished neighbour Christel. Joan garnered lifelong treasured friendships among them, her cousin Elaine, friends Mary Ellen, Rosemary, Irene and Lillian. The family would like to thank the responding Fenelon Falls Ambulance, Ross Memorial Emergency, Critical Care and Palliative Care Units. In keeping with Joan’s wishes there will be no service. In leu of flowers, please make donations to Fenelon Falls Community Care on her behalf. On line condolences or donations can be made at www.jardinefuneralhome.com
